The Power Of Saying "No"

Maybe it is the eagerness to please. Or overconfidence. Or even, what seems to many, an easy way to avoid conflict. Whatever the reason, it has become too convenient to say, "yes" or "yes, we can do that" to every client request. The simple truth is we cannot do it all or make everyone happy. Nor should we. Many compound this problem when they over-commit. We hear the frustrating stories from new clients each month about someone who said, "yes" but shouldn't have and then failed to deliver.

At Heigar, we take pride in the power of saying, "No" or "Not yet".

By keeping our client's best interest top of mind, we are careful to plan strategically and set realistic, appropriate expectations. If we cannot perform or deliver within a requested timeframe or budget, then we communicate that prior to any agreement to move forward.

While the power of "no" is important, we recognize that our clients have needs; so, we utilize the sister of "no" with the equally powerful, "not yet". Not yet indicates that we can perform the work / provide the service, just not at this time and, most importantly, conveys we will not over-commit. Capacity to deliver will always be a limited resource; therefore, we learn everything about our clients, plan the strategy in a transparent fashion, and then execute accordingly.

We are in business for the long hail and repeat clients are the cornerstone to our strategy. If you're tired of being told, "yes" but then being disappointed, reach out and connect.
